Title I Information

Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) provides financial assistance to states and school districts to meet the needs of educationally at-risk students.
 
The goal of the Title I program is to provide extra instructional services and activities which support students.

What will Title I do for my child?
Southeast Elementary School uses Title 1 funding to provide additional academic support and learning opportunities. Some examples include:

• Extra certified staff
• Extra resources for students
• Professional Development for Southeast teachers
• Family engagement activities (i.e. Greg Tang Family Math Night, Student Showcase, etc.)

The Title I program will provide your student with extra educational assistance beyond the regular classroom. Assessment data drives the decision-making. 

Southeast Elementary School utilizes the MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) model to help support students:

• Tier 1: Core curriculum
  • Where: General Education Setting
• Tier 2: Differentiated Small Group Support
  • Where: General Education Setting
• Tier 3: Intense Support
  • Where: Support Service classroom (Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Sanchez)

1. Classroom teachers meet with the MTSS team to discuss  a student’s needs based on assessment data.
2. The team works to determine the reason why the student has not made adequate progress.
3. The team determines an appropriate intervention for the student according to their needs.
4. The team reconvenes in 6-8 weeks to reevaluate the student’s response to the intervention.

Parent communication is ongoing- phone calls, emails, notes, and progress reports. Your child’s classroom teacher will keep you informed throughout the process.

Research shows that how well students do in school depends a great deal upon how much their parents/guardians get involved in their education. Some ways you can become involved include:

• Reading to or with your child
• Reading information in classroom newsletters and the school-wide newsletter
• Attending parent-teacher conferences, Southeast family events, completing surveys and providing feedback throughout the year
• Keeping your student’s teacher informed about events in his or her life which may affect his/her performance at school
• Joining & attending Southeast PTA meetings to learn about what’s happening at school
