About Your Counselor

I’m so excited to join the Superstar family and look forward to working with students, staff and parents to succeed at Southeast. I will provide classroom lessons that focus on interpersonal and intrapersonal skills, individual counseling, and small group interactions to help students reach their full potential. I am here to promote equity and access to quality education to all students.

Background

Mrs. Alicia Taylor, a Texas native, earned a BA in English from the University of Texas and a MEd in Secondary Education from Texas State University. She taught secondary ELA for 7 years in the Houston Independent School District before moving to Fort Knox, KY to serve as an Army AG Officer. She moved to Missouri in 2020 and joined the Park Hill family in 2021, serving in various roles before and after being deployed in 2022. Mrs. Taylor has recently completed the MEd in School Counseling program at UMKC and is so very excited to be joining Southeast Elementary as the School Counselor. Her passion is positively impacting students’ experience in school. When she is not at Southeast, you can find her hanging out with her husband and four kids.

What Does the Counselor Do?

Social and emotional wellness impact academic success. My job is to support all Southeast students in their progression through developmentally appropriate emotional growth, academic endeavors and career exploration.

Parts of my job include:

·   Individual and small group engagements

·   Classroom lessons on social and emotional development like:

o   Skills for learning

o   Emotions and emotion regulation

o   Conflict resolution

o   Empathy and respect

o   S.T.A.R. Expectations

·   Support teachers with student needs in the classroom

·   School-wide initiatives

·   Behavior intervention

·   Support for equity and access
